How Homes For Our Troops Works
The HFOT mission is to build and donate custom built homes for harshly injured post-9/11 veterans. These veterans have sustained injuries such as multiple amputations, paralysis, blindness, severe burns, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). HFOT helps these veterans gain back some of the independence they lost while serving their country and permits them to work on their families, healing, and readaptation.
Since its inception, nearly 90 cents out of every dollar that has been spent has gone directly to their program services for Veterans. HFOT builds its homes where the Veteran really wants to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after delivering the home to assist them with rebuilding their lives. HFOT is Different – Here’s How

Homes For Our Troops offers free financial planning to its clients for three years and also assists them with household budgeting. HFOT builds homes as a launching pad for these Vets to rebuild their lives, and once again become highly productive members of society. What an HFOT Home Looks Like
Homes For Our Troops has been at it building homes for injured Veterans since 2004 and they have learned a lot. They seek to constantly revise their construction materials, processes, and techniques to guarantee that their homes are of the highest quality. Each of their uniquely adapted customized homes for disabled Veterans are fitted with more than forty significant particular adaptions and exceed the ADA’s standards, delivering full accessibility for the Veterans who live in them
These adaptations include:
- Lowered Countertops & Accessible Appliances: The height of the oven and cooktop surface makes it safe to prepare food.
- Roll-Under Access: All countertops, sinks, and cooktops are concocted to allow wheelchairs to fit under them.
- Pull-Down Shelving: Removes the need to climb or reach, decreasing the risk of falling from the wheelchair.
- Luxury Vinyl Plank Floors: No carpets are used in the home to ensure that wheelchair use is unproblematic.
- Roll-In Shower: The Veteran can transfer from their wheelchair to the shower and will not slip on the wet floor.
- Automatic Doors: Make it easier to enter or exit the home without the use of your hands.
- Therapy Tub: To help alleviate pain and discomfort from the Veteran’s injuries.
- Master Closet/Safe Room: A secure place for the Veteran and their family to endure during severe weather and natural disasters.
Homes For Our Troops makes four-bedroom, two-bath, uniquely custom, energy-efficient homes that come in at just over 2,800 square feet, which it turns out is just the right size home for our Vets to comfortably raise a family while limiting expenses for utilities.

Moreover, HFOT is a platinum level participant in Guidestar, showing the organization’s commitment to transparency, and meets all 20 of the standards of the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. Homes For Our Troops Needs Your Help
Severe injury veterans normally have more than 100 Veterans in the application process for the HFOT program at any time.
